The 24 Hours of Le Mans, first held in 1923 is the world's oldest active endurance race and a cornerstone of motorsport. It forms part of the triple crown of motorsport alongside the Monaco Grand Prix and Indianapolis 500. Unlike sprint races, Le Mans tests speed, reliability and teamwork requiring drivers to push their cars to the limit for a full 24 hours.
Legendary battles between Ferrari, Porsche, Audi and Toyota have defined era of endurance racing. Le Mans has pioneered advancements such as disc brakes, hybrid powertrains and sustainable fuels. Winning Le Mans cements a driver's reputation with past champions including Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button and Nico Hulkenberg.
The Circuit de la Sarthe, spanning 13.626 km, combines public roads and permanent track sections making it one of the most demanding circuits in the world. Mulsanne straight, once six kilometres long forces cars to reach speeds over 330 km/h, testing aerodynamics and braking stability. Porsche Curves requires precision and confidence with rapid direction changes at high speeds. Nearly half the race takes place in darkness requiring driver to rely on headlights and trackside markers. Hypercars must navigate slower LMP2 and LMGT3 cars making overtaking a constant challenge.
Ferrari AF Corse aims for a third consecutive victory fielding three 499P hypercars. Toyota Gazoo Racing seeks redemption after two years without a win bringing two GR010 hybrids. Cadillac Racing expands its presence with four V-Series.R hypercars, including entries from Jota and Whelen.

At the 2025 24 Hours of Le mans, tyre longevity and fuel efficiency will be crucial in determinging the race outcome. Team must balance aggressive pace with endurance, ensuring their cars remain competitive over long stints. Goodyear expects some drivers to complete up to five consecutive stints on a single set of slick tyres covering a distance equivalent to twice that of a Formula One Grand Prix. Teams must optimise fuel consumption with pit stops carefully timed to avoid losing track position. the ability to save fuel under safety car conditions could be decisive.
Instead of a single safety car, three will enter the track at different locations ensuring cars don't get unfairly separated. Two safety cars will return to the pitlance leaving the field behind one safety car streamlining the restart. Cars ahead of their class leader can overtake the safety preventing artifical gaps between competitors.
With 21 hypercars competing, the battle for victory is more intense than ever. The BoP system has been fine-tuned ensuring closer competition between manufacturers. Rain is expected overnight which could shake up the race order and force teams to adapt. Aston Martin's hypercar debut and Ferrari's title defense add extra intrigue.
